Covering your web tracks

I'm in the IT business and thought I knew what to delete or where to hide things if I wanted. But was a bit alarmed the other day when I found Messenger keeps a list of all logins (even your official one misspelled) and underneath a list of all contacts. Even without your login ID or password it's possible for someone to see who you are and who you chat too. It's underneath \\appdata\\messenger\\roaming. I'm thinking of starting a web page to collate all these things.
Anyone else been caught out or got hints or tips?
